1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

the big application

today i picked up an application that will pretty much change my life depending on if it goes well or if it goes to, well i dont really wanna think about that. this application has nothing to do with an after school job, which i need, or a summer camp in wautoma. its my application to Martin Luther College and can be gotten easliy from the mlc website. granted the admissions standards (yes there are some) are not high but even so, the possibilty of rejection does exist. in looking at it, much of what the application says is quite basic. it mentions the courses needed for acceptance and asks me to name such things as where i went to high school, grade school, my act score, my marital status and other such random data that colleges are interested in. unlike other colleges though, its asks if i attend a wels church and if i inted on serving in the wisconsin evangelical lutheran synod, which Lord willing one day i will. After the questions i myself have to answer questions that i find much more intimidating appear. i need a reccomendation from my advisor or principle and from my pastor. the reccomendation form is included on the application so i know that someone from kettle (scary thought, it could be mr deibert) is going to rate my academic motivation, christian conduct, emotional stability, dependability, repution among peers and faculty, fitness for ministry, and so much more. my pastor will also talk about my emotional stability and aptitude for teaching as well as other things but this doesnt concern me as much because the person i am at church is not nearly as sinful as the me that attends kettle moraine lutheran high school. for this i am not proud but it is a fact. finally sending in this application will cost me 25 dollars.

money, money, everywhere, but not a drop to drink

the other day i went looking for a job. it was actually a worthwile experience and the guy at cousin's subs seemed very cool and excited to give me an application. of course i havent even looked at the application since i brought it home but ill fill it out eventually. looking for a job got me thinking about money. what is money? money is so many things. it is the carrot hanging just out of the donkey's reach. the donkey's name is american society. money is also a grand illusion that holds our society together. when you get a dollar bill of any value what use does it have? seriously what makes money worth what it is? it is worth what the united states government as well as the rest of the world's nation's and banks decide. the value is constantly changing based on how the world views the stability of America. if america looks stable people around the world will be more interested in having American currency and value will stay up. however if America looks like a third world nation filled with corruption, hunger, violence and instability nobody will want american dollars, causing their value to drop. however the amount of Dollars that are out there is whatever the united states wants. bassically. so why doesnt the government make everyone a millionaire? because if everyone had a million dollars all of the sudden everyone could buy whatever they wanted. seriously. and why is that so bad? because then companies wouldnt be able to make enough goods to supply this huge demand, in turn they would raise their prices until people found a balance. this would all lead to huge raises in prices by every company and we would get hyper inflation. there would be so much money available that it would be worthless. well couldnt we make the money more valuable? not really. prices can go up or down but the opposite of inflation is not deflation, its actually recession. where people dont spend their money so the lack of money being interchanged leads to products not being sold and people losing their jobs. when people lose their jobs and have no money no one can buy anything and we fall into a depression. inflation leads to the same path because as money loses its value and prices skyrocket people still cant afford goods and the end result is the same. thats why the government in the form of the Federal Reserve trys to keep a balance of the money in circulation with what is too little and what is too much. think about that next time you go to wal mart.

what else can i say about money? i read an amazing quote in a book by frank herbert called god emperor of dune: "money is the tool to freedom but the pursuit of money is slavery." if you want to be go into a restraunt and order a fifty dollar plate of clam and snail be my guest. you just have to have the money to afford it. you arent free to take whatever you want from society. you have to get a job and work. but in work you can be a slave. why do some people work 50, 60, 70 hour weeks in neglect of their family? for money i suppose but also for the status and the freedom that comes with that money. in that comes America's strength and weakness. if you work hard and do things the right way youll turn out financially ok. exceptions wil be made but those are the exceptions. however with that causes greed. people know that through work or other means than can make money and fulfill their hearts desire. they can lose sight of what they already have and put needs of other family members or friends on the backburner. finally, as the bible tells us, "the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil." money in and of itself isnt bad, it pretty much holds our society together, allowing us to be rewarded for work done and use that reward to pay for our needs. dont love money. the love of money will make you a slave more so than almost anything in this world.

God bless you all everyone and always do your work for Him.
